Yield of binary- and multi-species swards relative to single-species swards in intensive silage systems

چکیده

Binary- and multi-species sown mixtures may increase herbage yield and/or reduce inorganic nitrogen (N) requirement compared to perennial ryegrass (PRG) (Lolium perenne L.) swards. A split-plot design was used compare yields of binary- single-species swards three grasses red clover managed for intensive silage production under varying N application rates. Perennial Italian multiflorum Lam.) ryegrasses had greater annual when grown as single species receiving 360 kg N/ha per year than in binary with (Trifolium pratense 0 year, whereas timothy (Phleum produced equally high both situations. When no applied, the dry matter Mix 1 (10,738 kg/ha; PRG, timothy, white repens 2 (11,679 clover, ribwort plantain (Plantago lanceolata chicory (Cichorium intybus L.)) that a PRG sward (PRG/0N; 5,885 kg/ha) derived more from contribution legumes herbs. This advantage declined input increased, did legume herb proportions averaged across rates input, (12,464 vs. 11,893 kg/ha). fertiliser 120 matched achieved by year. Our results indicate performance grassland should be measured situ rather predicted constituent species.

investigation of single-user and multi-user detection methods in mc-cdma systems and comparison of their performances

Pasture intake and milk production of dairy cows rotationally grazing on multi-species swards.

Increasing plant species diversity has been proposed as a means for enhancing annual pasture productivity and decreasing seasonal variability of pasture production facing more frequent drought scenarios due to climate change. Few studies have examined how botanical complexity of sown swards affects cow performance. A 2-year experiment was conducted to determine how sward botanical complexity, f...

Species Diversity Effects on Productivity, Persistence and Quality of Multispecies Swards in a Four-Year Experiment

Plant species diversity may benefit natural grassland productivity, but its effect in managed grassland systems is not well understood. A four-year multispecies grassland experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of species diversity-legumes and non-leguminous forbs-on productivity, persistence and sward quality under cutting or grazing regimes and with or without slurry application. T...

Ryegrass Swards Compared with Perennial Ryegrass Swards on the Performance and Carcass Quality of Grazing Beef

An experiment investigated whether the inclusion of chicory (Cichorium intybus) in swards grazed by beef steers altered their performance, carcass characteristics or parasitism when compared to steers grazing perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne). Triplicate 2-ha plots were established with a chicory/ryegrass mix or ryegrass control. Forty-eight Belgian Bluecross steers were used in the first gra...
